Watching the news coverage of the latest storms ravaging the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, and Florida, I’m thinking about all of you in their path. Hoping you’re able to stay out of harm’s way.
It reminded me of a story my son shared recently.
On a flight from Colorado last year, he sat next to an interesting older man. He was fascinated by the stories of this man’s life. He’d been a linesman by trade, working on power lines. Early in his career, he discovered that following natural disasters was highly lucrative. He spent part of the year working long hours getting the power back up after storms. The cleanup was tough, but the paychecks were worth it! When the cleanup was complete, he’d head off on adventures. Fishing trips in Alaska… Montana. My son was intrigued. He said, “I’m not going to lie, that sounds like a great life!”.
It’s a good reminder – the trades can provide a great life.
As I watch the coverage of the storms, I want to remind everyone of all the skilled workers who clean up the mess. Getting our power back up, plumbing, lights, networks. It’s challenging work, but also important work. It should pay well.
Thank you to our tradespeople – ready and willing to do what’s needed to get things back up and running. We see the hard work you do and appreciate you.
Stay safe.
